About One Madrona Interior Design

A trained eye. A personal approach.

The designer and founder behind One Madrona spent years at the intersection of beauty, luxury, and retail — working with brands like L'Oréal and Coty before spending nearly a decade at Nordstrom leading marketing for one of the company's largest categories.

That career demanded a precise understanding of how people respond to space, materials, and presentation, and how to tell the difference between what photographs beautifully and what actually works in someone's life.

It's the same eye, and the same standard, that goes into every project we take on.

Our design philosophy

We believe good design belongs to every home. Whether you arrive with a strong sense of what you want, a treasured piece that inspires everything, or no idea where to start, we meet you where you are. Some of our favorite projects have started with a client saying "I don't really have a style" and ended with a space that felt more like them than anything they'd imagined.

We layer materials, lighting, and furnishings with intention, blending vintage and modern, familiar and unexpected, to create spaces that feel collected rather than decorated. We have a particular passion for space planning: the careful work of understanding how a home is actually lived in, how you move through it, how each space functions in daily life, and where things naturally belong. Sometimes that means rearranging what's there. Sometimes it means moving a wall. Either way, the goal is the same: more usable space, better function, and a space that fits you and the way you live.

We'll gently push you toward something new when it makes sense, and we're obsessed with the small details that make your home feel like a reflection of you.

How we work

We work closely with each client from first conversation through final installation, asking the right questions, listening carefully, and making sure every decision feels clear rather than overwhelming.

Most people underestimate what a design project actually involves until they're in the middle of one. Take a kitchen renovation, for example. Hundreds of decisions need to be made, starting with countertop material, sink placement and style, faucet finish and scale, outlet placement, cabinet configuration, hardware, lighting, tile layout and much more. And that's before asking whether all of those choices work beautifully together as a whole. These are significant investments. Get any one of them wrong and you live with it. Get them all right and the room feels effortless, which is exactly what good design is supposed to feel like.

That's what we're here for. We bring trade access, trusted vendor relationships, and a deeply trained eye to every project, so that your home, your life, and the pieces that matter to you always end up exactly where they should be.

Aging-in-place & universal design

There are two moments when families come to us for this work. The first is when a senior wants to stay in the home they love for as long as possible, safely and comfortably, without the space working against them. The second is when a family decides to bring an elderly parent or relative into their home, into a spare room, an ADU, or a dedicated part of the house, and needs to create a space where that person can live with dignity and as much independence as possible.

Both situations deserve thoughtful design. And both are more common than most people realize. We wish more families knew this kind of aging-in-place planning was available before the moment of crisis, because the earlier the conversation starts, the more options everyone has.

Thoughtful details, such as wider doorways, step-free showers, well-placed lighting, accessible storage, and carefully chosen flooring, can make a significant difference in how safely and comfortably someone moves through a home every day. Universal design principles take this further, creating spaces that work beautifully for everyone in the household, regardless of age or ability. Done well, none of it looks clinical or feels like a compromise. It simply feels like a well-designed home.

If you're in the middle of this right now, we can help. If you're thinking ahead, even better.

Projects we work on

We work with homeowners, contractors, and architects across Olympia, Tacoma, and Western Washington, covering the full range of residential design, from a single room that's never quite worked, to a kitchen or bathroom remodel, to a complete home renovation or new construction build. Kitchens, bathrooms, and aging-in-place design are specialties we return to again and again, and we bring the same level of care and precision to every project regardless of scale.

Sometimes the best place to start is small. A single room can clarify everything — your style, your priorities, and what you want the rest of your home to feel like. Other times you know exactly what you need and you're ready to go. Either way, we'll meet you where you are.

We also partner with contractors and architects who need an experienced design eye on a project. If you're mid-build and need someone who can make fast, confident decisions on finishes, space planning, or selections, we'd love to talk.
